THREE YEARS IN THE MAKING

Incense had long been part of LYDEEN, but ENCENS K was developed from the ground up. Over three years, we researched and selected where it would be made, the materials to use and the methods of production. In 2026, ENCENS K was finally ready to launch.

THE STORY OF LYDEEN

The story of LYDEEN PARFUMS began in Sweden in 2008, founded by Christine and Niclas Lydeen. For more than a decade, their work has been shaped by nature, culture and the details of everyday life, reaching an audience well beyond Sweden.

Forests have been a recurring presence in LYDEEN’s work, particularly in its use and interpretation of woods. That interest extends beyond fragrance, with LYDEEN also supporting tree-planting and environmental organizations.

What began with perfume has since grown to include incense, home fragrance, candles and body fragrance, taking scent into different parts of daily life.

RETHINKING INCENSE

In the past, LYDEEN’s incense drew largely from its perfumes, bringing familiar scents from the skin into the home. But we didn’t want incense to simply be another form of LYDEEN perfume.

From 2023 to 2026, LYDEEN explored incense traditions, materials and methods from different regions, eventually turning to Japan. ENCENS K came from that process. Unlike our earlier incense, it was developed independently from LYDEEN’s perfumes, with new collections and scents of its own.

WHY JAPAN, WHY AWAJI

We wanted to find a place with its own incense-making tradition and culture. Japan’s long history with incense, aromatic woods and the craft of incense making eventually led us there.

In 2023, the LYDEEN team travelled to Japan and discovered Awaji Island, where incense has been made for more than 170 years. Production began around 1850 and has remained an important part of the island ever since. Today, around 70% of Japan’s incense is made on Awaji Island, making it one of the country’s most important centres for incense making.

MADE WITH SEIKADO

We ultimately chose to work with SEIKADO on Awaji Island. With nearly 80 years of incense-making experience, SEIKADO has developed extensive knowledge of natural aromatic woods and the blending of different fragrance materials.

ENCENS K is made with natural sandalwood, with different fragrance materials selected for each scent. From the initial scent direction to the final formula, each composition went through multiple adjustments before it was complete.

THREE COLLECTIONS

ENCENS K continues LYDEEN’s approach to finding inspiration in nature. Plants, weather and woods form the starting points for three distinct collections, together shaping the scent world of ENCENS K.
